Who Needs Fire Alarm Servicing?
Every fire alarm system needs regular professional servicing, not just weekly tests. BS 5839-1 recommends a periodic inspection and service by a competent person at intervals of no more than six months, and under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person must keep the system maintained in efficient working order. Weekly call point tests only confirm the alarm sounds; servicing checks the panel, power supplies, detectors and devices that make the system reliable. Without it, faults can build up unnoticed and your insurer or fire authority may question whether the system has been properly maintained.
